Aquarian babies everywhere!

June 24, 2013
When I was at church with my folks in Florida, there were 6 children being baptized!  The minister said that they had to start consolidating baptisms due to the increase in so many babies the past year - can you believe it? A few years back, when I received divine orders through my teacher, Tej Kaur, to start teaching prenatal yoga she wasn't kidding!  She gave me the "message"  to start adding all types of family yoga classes as "they" needed my help in birthing these new aquarian souls and helping birth more conscious families to raise them. Now I see why.  Everywhere I go, I see so many...

Ready to Change Deep Family Patterns?

June 21, 2013
Mantra for Family Karma: (the 24th Pauri of Japji) Meet the 24th pauri!  It's a mantra from the Japji (prayer for the soul). I've really been enjoying this mantra lately.  In fact, I've been playing it while I sleep for the past 2 months! Whether you listen, chant or sleep with mantra, you get the benefits of deep cellular change. Codes within our cells are written by our family's history and determine more than what we look like and to what diseases we are prone. Even when we are vastly different that the rest of our family, certain tendencies toward discontent or misfortune can be present...

Cold Shower? Seriously?

June 20, 2013
I absolutely ADORE this picture!  This is how I first felt when it was suggested I try cold showers in the morning. First of all I'm a predominately Vata dosha physically.  That means I'm naturally cold, light, airy and dry if I don't keep myself in balance. So the thought of stepping into a cold shower was out of the question!  Listen, I'm the one who won't swim unless it's the Caribbean.  Ask my kids! Then came along the practice of Kundalini Yoga and the teachings of Yogi Bhajan on cold showers before morning sadhana.  There are pages written on the benefits of Ishnaan - The Science...

Early Morning Walk

June 19, 2013
This blog originally appeared on www.lynnegolodner.com on June 17, 2013. So many things to write about! The scent of the dewy grass and dirt of the nature preserve. The slippery call of the bluebirds perched on a fence that I passed on my early morning walk. The pink and purple flowers with two fuzzy puppies rolling in them, butterflies made of netting stuck into the dirt to create the illusion of a fertile garden. I went walking this morning, on the last day of my year of being 41. Tomorrow I step into another year, another age. This has been my summer pledge: to start my days in the way I...

A 10 Year Old's Yoga Party-For-Life!

June 18, 2013
I haven't done the "kid thing" in years.  Yet, I love kids and look forward to a gaggle of grandchildren running around me.  Hopefully sooner than later! When a girlfriend called to ask if I would be interested (willing is more like it) in teaching a yoga class to a group of 10-year-old girls for her daughter Kaylee's birthday, my reaction was: "Uhhh…oh sure, of course, I'd be happy to." What? The clown couldn't make it, so I was next in line? Teaching yoga to 17 high-energy 10-year-old girls at a birthday party–yikes!  A reasonable response–don't you think? Or, so...

Healing in Families

June 17, 2013
If you let something go and it's meant to be, it will come back to you is how the saying goes.  I recently received a phone call from my sister who's a few years older than I am and with whom I shared a bedroom for most of my childhood. I know a phone call doesn't sound special, but it was the most precious gift. I had thought I had really lost her for the last time a few months back. Her soul has always been on a path of inquiry and struggle with relationships within the family.  And this is ok!  Although it was sad for me at times to have her and then to lose her from time to time, I always...

From Heart to Heart to Heart

June 13, 2013
Debra B. Darvick Amazing to think that this is my eighth year practicing yoga at Karma. Like all of Karma's wonderful teachers, Susann Spilkin always shares a gem of wisdom or insight to frame the set of asanas she will be taking us through.  A recent class devoted to opening the heart, prompted me to share this essay with her and also with the entire Karma Yoga community.  Enjoy. While hiking one day, I came across three hearts, a trio of metaphorical messages courtesy of Mother Nature. The first, above, belongs to a prickly pear cactus. As I walked the dusty red trail, I thought of all the...

Behind the Scenes of Katherine's Metro You Ph

June 6, 2013
Katherine Austin graces this month's cover of Metro You magazine, a monthly glossy women's magazine serving metro Detroit. Her story - about how dedication, authenticity and a desire to lift up others while lifting up herself - is an inspiring, universal story about doing good leading to doing well. Here's the link to Katherine's cover story. Check out some pics from behind the scenes of a fun photo shoot in April, which led to the gorgeous cover spread featuring Karma Yoga's founder and owner. The photo shoot featured the following great talent: Karma Yoga publicist Lynne Golodner, of Your...

Disconnect to Connect

June 4, 2013
After my recent Heart-Based Meditation Retreat in northern Michigan, I stayed Up North, sheltered in a spiritual community for a few days.  It was a great way to integrate the incredible energy and outpouring of love from the retreat before returning to life-as-I-know-it. For many years, I led retreats and traveled for study, only to hop back on a plane and jump into Real Life without any transition from the ethereal to the surreal. Wrong. As leader of the retreat, I also needed to process, unwind and integrate all that had gone on as much as my students did.  I finally realized that self-care...
