Why 4am Sadhana? Are you crazy?

June 1, 2013
Why I do 4am Sadhana... I often get asked why in the world would I get up so early to practice?  It's a fair question, based on our society.  It's not the norm in America, but in many countries around the world, it's common practice to rise before the sun for morning prayer. Sadhana means daily spiritual practice.  You certainly can do it any time of the day - so why 4am? Because the 2½ hours before sunrise is the most potent time to connect to the higher realms. Known as the Amrit Vela, or the period when the veil is the thinnest to the Divine, this time is precious. The sun is at a 60-degree...

We loved hosting Snatam Kaur and her bandmates, Todd Boston and Ramesh Kannan, in metro Detroit to lift us up as a community. Here are some great images from our wonderful whirlwind of elevation May 12th and 13th. Stay tuned for Simrit Kaur August 31st! It was a Full Moon Full Retreat!

May 27, 2013
Sat Nam! I'm still Up North relishing the post bhav of another retreat weekend at Song of The Morning Ranch in Vanderbilt, Michigan! Karma Ayurveda Team member Dave Lesinski and I hosted a Heart-Based Meditation and Yoga Retreat with 25 beautiful souls over a powerful full moon/lunar eclipse weekend.  Our journey this past weekend was one of filling ourselves up with LOVE! Dave's an Ayurvedic practioner and a Heart-Based Meditation teacher like myself.  We were so grateful and honored to assist people in healing and raising their consciousness.  Between their yoga experiences, lectures, gong...

Fitting In

May 15, 2013
Karma Yoga owner Katherine Austin, Lynne Golodner, and Robin Levine, concert co-producer by Lynne Meredith Golodner Most of us spend our entire lives trying to find where we fit. I remember wanting the cool jeans in 5th grade, the cool haircut in 7th grade, the cool boyfriend in high school, the cool sorority in college. Then it was the cool job in the cool city, the cool roommate, the cool husband, the cool kids. Except I never quite cut it in the definition of cool. My big curly hair never fit into the haircut of the times, in any era. It was me and me alone, and rather than embrace...

Three Years and Countless Classes Later…

May 13, 2013
BY BETSY COHN It can take a long time To allow Something to happen, maybe Longer the more we need it, maybe Longest it seems for me, For my breath Joining body joining spirit, For my tears of despair, Or just of unsettled aloneness (even knowing how I'm loved), For those tears To stop Their free-fall diving From the platform of my cheeks Before crashing To the ground. I am made Flat and am not surprised As it's happened again and again.   And then I wake up Different. It's been so long Since I've been surprised. Yoga's becoming my practice And I feel Good.   In...

Spreading The Power of Yoga!

May 11, 2013
Do you know how lucky you are? Everyday, every moment, we all have an opportunity to forge a new path for ourselves; we hold the power to change our energetic ways, positively affecting the world we live in. I say: take it, embrace it, work it and let your light shine! Through the continued practice of yoga, we can elevate ourselves to the absolute brightest version of who we are truly meant to be. I would like to share the beauty of my friend, Kiersten Mooney, (owner of Bala Vinyasa Yoga Studios), who shares with the world her deeply soul-felt experience of what it really means to unite others,...

Now more than ever we need to keep up and exp

Understand how Kundalini Yoga is the technology for now to be able to keep up with this new Aquarian Age.  Everything has changed.  Just like we can't operate anymore in this world without a cell phone or computer to keep up with the way the Internet has become a part of everything we do; we need a brain and body that can keep up with all this information, energy and technology as well or we'll go "nutty," as Tej says. Change the old "mantras" in your head to new thought patterns to feel better, step into your power and make better choices. Mantras change the energy field of the listener and...

The Road Map to Salvation through Mantra, by

April 28, 2013
By Snatam Kaur Khalsa (who will be here in concert May 12-13) How can we really enjoy this life? How can we really enjoy being in our bodies, in this rib cage? We must have the capacity to have a still and quiet mind. Because the joy is there. This innocence is there. The love is there. We become too ravaged in our own insecurity, our own misery, our own blindness, to even see the truth. Yes, thrash around if you must, gnarl and gnash your teeth like a wild animal. After enough tearing about, you will be left alone, simply alone, to rebuild the pieces of your life. Use the sacred medicine...

Awake

"When you lose touch with inner stillness, you lose touch with yourself. When you lose touch with yourself, you lose yourself in the world." ~ Eckhart Tolle Isn't it great when affirmation of our feelings just shows up? Like this afternoon; right now, I'm relaxing on my bed with my three dogs; obviously with my computer on my lap and this perfect quote from Eckhart Tolle is just there, here - now. Now, wow, that's it, "The Power of Now", by Eckhart Tolle. I'm a huge fan, (no kidding...I quote him all the time). Perhaps you've heard me say in class umpteen times, "accept, then act." This mantra...
