YOGA THEN & NOW: COMPARATIVE PHILOSOPHIES & THE HISTORY OF YOGA
We are products of our upbringing. Cultural, religious, & philosophical training may be subtle or overt; nonetheless, we are all influenced by belief systems passed down to us from our families, friends, and the society into which we’re born.
In this course, we’ll explore our personal philosophical paradigms through the lenses of mechanistic and quantum ideologies as well as through three systems of Yogic philosophy from the ancient Vedas to contemporary variants of Tantra.
Sound heady? In some ways, yes, it will be a journey through abstraction. In others, however, this is a very practical course that will help you understand what yoga means to you and why.
No experience with asana or philosophy necessary. Students need only have a sincere desire to learn and reflect. Recommended (but not essential) reading: From the Vedas to Vinyasa by Amy Vaughn.
Bring your yoga mat, cushion/floor chair/blanket to sit on, notebook, and something to write with.
